A sauna gently raises your body temperature, boosting circulation, easing muscle tension, and helping you unwind. Many people also find it improves sleep, skin, and overall wellbeing.
A sauna won’t directly burn belly fat, but it can support your overall wellbeing. The heat makes you sweat and raises your heart rate, which can feel a bit like light exercise.
Neither is strictly “better” - it really depends on what you enjoy. A dry sauna gives you intense, dry heat that helps ease muscle tension and improve circulation. A wet sauna (or steam room) adds humidity, which some people find gentler on the airways and skin. It comes down to personal preference.
Most people find 10 to 20 minutes in a sauna is plenty. It’s best to listen to your body - step out sooner if you start to feel uncomfortable, and always keep well hydrated before and after.
For most healthy adults, using a sauna every day is perfectly safe and can be very beneficial. The key is to keep your sessions sensible - stay hydrated, listen to your body, and avoid pushing past your comfort level. If you have any health concerns, it’s always best to check with your GP first.
